Innovative new products showcased at PDAC 2012Global Drilling Products and 2iC Australia teamed up to showcase new products at PDAC 2012
08 May 2012
In a sign of the now mature relationship between 2iC Australia and Global Drilling Products, 2iC and GDP teamed at PDAC to jointly showcase the 2iC products range and to showcase the innovative, new Ezy-Ori™ back end core orientation tool and Rota-Lock™ overshot.
The new Ezy-Ori™ back end core orientation tool offers the same level of accuracy and reliability that drillers and geologists alike have come to expect from 2iC. It incorporates a similar locking ball mechanism to the Ezy-Mark™ orientation tool except it is actuated in a different way at the back end of the inner core barrel. The balls are locked in when drill rotation slows and then stops at the end of the drill run. It is then a simple process to orientate the inner core barrel when it is brought to the surface. Because it is mechanical there is no 'black box mystery' about it, the results are plain to see and audit-able unlike competing products on the market. Ezy-Ori™is due for market release later in 2012.
The new Rota-Lock™ overshot is at an advanced stage of development and due to be released in July 2012. The Rota-Lock™ overshot shifts the paradigm on safety and innovation for overshots. The Rota-Lock™ overshot will be the safest overshot around when it hits the market. It features a unique locking mechanism that secures the inner core barrel when it is being lifted in to and out of the drill hole. There is very little chance of the inner core barrel being released accidentally on the mast when drillers and offsiders are most at risk. Once the Rota-Lock™ overshot is set and the iiner corebarrel has been lowered to the bottom of the hole or water table, it is an easy matter of just pulling on the wireline the required number of times to release the core barrel in preparation for drilling thus eliminating the need for a dry release.
Once again 2iC Australia has shown the world that they are the leaders in core barrel technology at the PDAC.

2iC Australia Digs Deep With Innovative Designs
February 28, 2012
In the year 2000, Andrew Beach and Gavin McLeod combined their twenty years of Drilling and R&D experience to form Industrial Innovations and Concepts Pty Ltd, later shortened to 2iC Australia Pty Ltd (2iC).
In 2002 they sold their patented product known as the Ezy-Lock™ Overshot (now an industry standard) to Boart Longyear, one of the largest manufacturers of exploration drilling products in the world.
Since then, 2iC has expanded their range of innovative products to include;
- The Ezy-Grease & Grout™ - a wireline delivery tool.
- The Ezy-Mark™ - a front-end mechanical core orientation tool.
- The Ori-Block™ - a fully auditable core orientation record.
- The Ezy-Logger™ - a quick reference hand-held goniometer.
- The Verti-Ori™ - a vertical core orientation & borehole surveying system.
One of the most pressing requirements in 2003 was for a wire-line head assembly that released inner tubes more easily and reliably in core block situations. Other considerations were a multi-fit unit incorporating a pivoting spearpoint that could not lay over to one side within H & P drill pipe specifically.
This need provided 2iC with the incentive to develop the parallel retracting Ezy-Latch™ with the Posi-Connect™ self-centering spearpoint.
The Ezy-Latch™ as a lifting device is extremely safe, reliable and robust when handling B, N, H & P tubes filled with core. This product has been tested to destruction during the R&D process, followed by extensive commercial testing on drilling rigs in Australia and Overseas.
One of the Ezy-Latch™ success stories recently occurred in Mongolia. Ellehcor Drilling (incorporated by Australian driller, Chris Aanensen), were drilling H sized core in the Mongolian coalfields and suffering core tube blockages in the difficult ground. These blockages resulted in wire-line breakages and costly loss of productivity.
The 2iC N/H Ezy-Latches™ were field tested under these harsh conditions and Ellehcor Drilling was delighted with the inherent reduction in wire-line breakage, reduced inventory requirements and increased profitability.
Ellehcor Drilling are eagerly awaiting the new H/P Ezy-Latch™ that can handle both their P & H drilling contracts in the Mongolian coal deposits.
2iC has many more exciting projects in the pipeline. On the horizon is;
- Rota-Lock™ Overshot - a simpler, quick release, lockable overshot.
- New Backend Core Orientation System.
- And many more.
Global Drilling Products Pty Ltd (GDP) is proud to be the authorized global distributor for all 2iC products.
Make sure you keep up to date with the latest drilling product developments by visiting the GDP stand at AIDA's Drill 2012 in Adelaide and other major drilling exhibitions, including PDAC 2012 in Toronto this year.
